The New Heart of Wisdom by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

If you have been coming to meditation classes for  a year or longer, have a regular meditation practice, and would like to deepen your understanding and practice of Buddhist meditation, please consider joining  us to study together this special book.

On Monday 1st September, Gen Dema will explain the benefits of taking part in Foundation Programme, the special prayers that we will engage in, and read and comment on the introduction to The New Heart of Wisdom.

As it says on the back of this book:

"This special presentation of Buddha's teachings by the author of Modern Buddhism, offers truly liberating insights and advice for the contemporary reader. It reveals the profound meaning of the very heart of Buddha’s teachings - The Perfection of Wisdom Sutras. The author shows how all our problems and suffering come from our ignorance of the ultimate nature of things, and how we can abandon this ignorance and come to enjoy pure, lasting happiness by developing a special wisdom associated with compassion for all living beings."

If you would like to come to see whether this programme will suit you, this introductory class  and the second class are free.

If you decide to enrol on  FP  we ask you become a member of Samudra KBC.

Dates (for the rest of the year):

September 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29*, October 20, 27, November 3, 10*, 17, 24, December 1 and 8

* Please note that on these dates we will engage in special Chanted Prayers, also known as Pujas.

The Foundation Programme is open to anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding, meditation and practice of Buddhism by studying in a systematic way.
Please  contact epc@samudracentre.org if you have some interest in joining the programme.
"The practice of Lamrim is very important because everyone needs to cultivate peaceful states of mind. By listening to or reading these teachings we can learn how to control our mind and always keep a good motivation in our heart. This will make all our daily actions pure and meaningful. By controlling our mind we can solve all our daily problems, and by gradually improving our daily practice of Lamrim can advance from our present stage to the stage of a Bodhisattva. By progressing further we can become a fully enlightened being. This is the essential meaning of our human life ." Ven Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

"For me the Foundation Programme has been something that I have been looking for, for a long, long time. It has been the path of search for peace, and now I have found the path, my life has been transformed. "Present student

How to participate

You can participate in one of three ways: in-person, live streamed, or by correspondence:

In-person – students attend each scheduled class at Samudra Buddhist Centre
Live streamed – if in-person attendance is not possible due to certain conditions eg disability, students can sign up for this option – to attend the classes ‘live online’
Correspondence – if students wish to study on FP but cannot make the Monday evening class time, they can sign up for this option – to receive an audio recording of each class to listen to at a time convenient for them.
Classes run approximately 36 times a year (roughly following school term dates). Students commit to attend every class (unless for unavoidable reasons).

Why study on the Foundation Programme

The study format has been designed by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche to quickly deepen our understanding and experience of the teachings and meditations. In this way the programme functions to fulfil both our own and others wishes by increasing our wisdom and compassion. With wisdom and compassion we can solve all the problems we encounter in daily life.

All the teachings are given by our Resident Teacher, Gen Kelsang Dema. With many years of dedicated study and practice, Gen Dema has earned recognition for her deep understanding of Buddhist teachings and her ability to convey these teachings with clarity and compassion. Over the years she has touched the hearts of thousants of people, inspiring them to integrate Buddha's teachings into their modern daily lives.

What is involved
